Acronyms and Advice -- Help the Newbies!

Postby Erin » Fri Jul 08, 2005 12:22 am

I thought I'd start a help file for newbies. Everyone is welcome to contribute! Please post your suggestions to this thread and I'll compile it into a help file.

Acronyms:
WS - wellspouse
IS - illspouse
WD - well daughter
WS - well son
TBI - Traumatic Brain Injury
MS - multiple sclerosis
CFS - chronic fatigue syndrome

Please add your favorite illness/acronym!

Advice to Newbies:
It's really helpful for people to add a signature line that says what your IS suffers/suffered from so that we know a little about you when we read your post.

IADLs = Independent Activities of Daily Living (things the system thinks wives and husbands do and hardly ever talk about) that is shopping, cleaning, yardwork, driving, bill paying, cooking, etc. etc.)
SOB = besides being S.O.B. for inlaws is Short of Breath
COPD = Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease -which are many, including emphysema (from smoking or not), bronchiectasis (stretched out pockets of the bronchia filled with mucus)

and the board shorthands
LOL = laughing out loud
FYI = for your information
IMHO = in my humble opinion (a disclaimer to say that maybe only I think this - the humble part may be overstated ;)
