New here...hello!My IS is suffering from a neurodegenerative disorder and has been declining for over three years now. I visit boards often to gain insight but this is my first post. Hello from KC!
IS, 47, in assisted care. Has an unknown neurodegenerative disorder, is paraplegic and has cognitive problems.
WS, 44, now separated. Works full-time, finishing grad school, raising two teenagers and making an attempt to find her way in a new life.
Re: New here...hello!Welcome to our special community, mom2two! I am glad you found us.
I joined WS just about one year ago. At the beginning I browsed finding quite a bit of help just by reading the posts of others. However, since I began actively participating I feel like I am encircled by remarkable, caring friends and it makes an enormous difference in how I am able to face the challenges of being a WS. I hope to see you often, everybody cares and understands. A welcoming hug, Claudia WS 70,IS 74, PPMS 25+ years.

Re: New here...hello!Welcome! You will find so much understanding, encouragement and information here. It seems that everyone listens when we rant and shares in small accomplishments. Its a great place.

Re: New here...hello!Mom2Two,
Welcome to WSA. I can only hope that you find the support and friendship that I have found here. You certainly have your hands full, but don't forget to take the time for YOU. Again welcome and come often and stay late. Kat Married for 42 years. Caregiver for 13 yrs. IS died of COPD Feb. 10, 2011. Combat related disabled veteran.
Re: New here...hello!Thanks for the welcome. It has been a rough three years, going from one diagnosis to another, and now to "unknown" again. It has been so frustrating just on the medical front constantly fighting for IS's needs. In the meantime, our whole family life has changed -- we've had to move, file bankruptcy, along with a host of other problems. Just the paperwork alone is mind-boggling. It's amazing, actually, that I have any sanity left.
But, I think the hardest part of all this is watching IS struggle. He was such a hard-working, intelligent professional that is now needing a lot of assistance and is beginning to have memory/cognitive issues. It is breaking my heart. I tried to have hope for so long that this could be fixed but I need to face reality -- whatever he has, it is not going away. Even with all the day-to-day difficulty of caring for my IS, I still try to focus on blessings -- my family is still together, we are recovering financially, we have the support of an amazing church family and good friends in our community. There's a lot to be thankful for. I'll just take it one day at a time... IS, 47, in assisted care. Has an unknown neurodegenerative disorder, is paraplegic and has cognitive problems.
