I have tried to download an avatar several times, but the file is always too big. I've seen KB but never KiB.
Can you only use digital photos? Please advise. Thanks!

Re: AVATARSBethany,
Check out this thread (scroll down to Eric's post and he gives instructions) viewtopic.php?f=11&t=8098&start=0 It's not too hard to do from photobucket....that's where I did mine. Re: AVATARSI guess I need more help than I thought ...

Re: AVATARSBethany,
Here is another method using "Paint" which is probably on your computer already: 1. Open your picture in Paint 2. Click the "Select" tool 3. Select the area of the picture you want to keep--make it approximately square as you select it, it doesn't have to be exactly square 4. Click the "Crop" tool 5. Click the "resize" tool 6. Uncheck the "maintain aspect ratio" 7. Check "pixels" (this is as opposed to the default "percentage") 8. Enter "80" in both the "horizontal" and "Vertical" boxes 9. Click "OK" 10. Save the file, which is your Avatar pm if questions dizzy Wife has Frontotemperal Dementia (FTD) and is in assisted living 7/2009.
Re: AVATARSPardon for the correction but when you crop the picture is DOES have to be square or it will get distorted when you change the size to 80 x 80.
Otherwise the instructions are good. Wife passed away 08/09/10 due to the ravages of Multiple Sclerosis.

Re: AVATARSThanks, dizzy and Ray
I tried it in Paint once, but obviously forgot a critical step. (You do realize, Ray, that the reason we gals have so much difficulty with spatial conception is all your fault.... Re: AVATARSI agree, Ray, as regards square and distortion....however, distortion is in the eye of the beholder. When eyeballing something as square, the eye sees it back as ok. Try it....

Re: AVATARSNormally yes but with a picture that small ( 80 x 80 pixels ) it only takes a couple of pixels off in either direction to become noticeable.
Most graphics programs have a little window at the bottom of the pane that indicates what the size is as you crop the photo. All you have to do is watch it and when it gets to 80 x 80 stop cropping. So easy there's no reason NOT to do it. Wife passed away 08/09/10 due to the ravages of Multiple Sclerosis.

Re: AVATARSLinda: I see your avatar change from time to time. I like this one.
FIS died 9/1/08. It was her CHF, COPD, and Atrial Fibrulation that hospitalized her the last time. Both WS and FIS are women who retired in 1997 and had lived together almost 19 years.
