I feel kinda bad saying this......but I'm glad it's not just happening to me.

Sometimes reloading the page several times works, but sometimes it seems hopeless so I just wander away.

But this site seems much slower to me than it did even just a couple months ago.

I've had the same issue many times...including just a few minutes ago at 5 a.m....when you'd think there are not that many people on the forum ;)

Seems like an upgrade is sorely needed...

I just had the same problem just now. Took a long time for this reply box to load. I've had this problem off and on for some time but this week it seems particularly bad.

Ray, weren't we corrected about this recently??? It's actually climate change.

And, yeah, sometimes I click to read posts and walk away so I don't get frustrated. This is the only site that I have that problem with. But, the site is so great, I just deal with the "dial up" speed I get here!

Its where its being hosted.
On their website their sales pitch about why your small business should have a website they use statistics about internet usage from 2000.
I think this website is being hosted by a tired old server.

It’s interesting to see how technology has changed our expectations. Does anyone remember reading filenames as they slowly scrolled up the screen after typing the DIRectory command from the prompt on an old 8086 PC? Now they’re a blur. Do you remember the modem squawk as you dialed in to a local BBS and then watched the welcome screen build itself down the page a couple inches at a time? Now we get annoyed if it takes as much as a full second for a page from the other side of the world to appear. Do you remember walking to school 4 miles in the sno… oh waitaminit – that’s a different reminisce. Never mind.

I used to lead a tech support department for a company that put the law in the internet. We had a lot of difficulty explaining the difference between static web sites that appear immediately and dynamic sites, such as ours (and WSA forums), that have to be built with each request. A static page is a document setting out on a server just waiting for someone to request it. The work was done by a web designer and prepared for you before you got there. A dynamic page (such as WSA forums) doesn’t exist until you ask for it. It is custom made for you. The information displayed on your screen has to be searched for, located, retrieved, formatted according to your personal settings, and then finally displayed. (Whew!)

I get the same delays or errors as everyone else sometimes, but it’s always resolved if I’ll check out some other website and come back within a minute or so. Sixty seconds sure is a long time in our high-tech society, isn’t it? :)

(clicking Ray’s antenna…! )

Ah, yes, DOS 5.0.

Sadly, the antenna was sending and receiving much better back then.

Now it sorta just droops there, hanging from ..........................................

I taught DOS in 1991. DOS 5.0 was a really souped up version when it came out! I still have my hundreds of 3.5" 720kb and 1.44mb diskettes and some 360kb 5.25" disks.

I have a working 386 laptop running DOS 6.0 and Windows 3.11.
It really flies. Oddly enough I'm not kidding. Two meg of ram and snappy. I have a program that I use for creating disks for an old sampling keyboard that only works on that thing.

Quick story.

I was working as IT manger for Purdue Chickens in one of their slaughtering houses about 10 years ago. Big company with a tiny tech budget.

I got a call one night at about 3AM that the shipping computers were down and thousands of pounds of chicken were sitting on the shipping dock unable to be loaded because the truck assignments were in the dead PC.

I drove in to work and fixed the problem in about 2 minutes. The reason I had to drive 50 miles to work was that no one in the shipping department could figure out how to work in a DOS environment. They were stupefied that the mouse wouldn't work. We're talking DOS 3.3 here. The two PC's were 8088's with dual floppy drives. Ancient even ten years ago.

I was so pissed I could have choked a chicken.

But I did get an award for saving the day. Nice plaque and a techie tool kit.

in case you're wondering, I never did get to choke a chicken while I was working there.
