I just registered and I'm having trouble.

Do not fear!

Try the following steps and you'll be sure to get activated asap.

1. After you register, email me to let me know that you're a real person so that I can activate your account. forumadmin@wellspouse.org

2. If you haven't received an email from me, try to log on anyway -- I activate accounts in a way that sometimes doesn't generate an email, so just because you didn't get a notification it doesn't mean your account isn't active. Try to log on.

3. If all else fails and you have been waiting more than two days, please email me -- I really don't mind. In fact, I like to hear from people personally and would prefer for you to communicate with me politely than get frustrated.

All this security is to keep spammers away from our board, which unfortunately is 90% of what I do here. Nevertheless, it's worth a little frustration on all our parts to keep this board as great and safe and spam-free as it is.

Thanks in advance for your kind communication and patience!

Incidentally, just in case you didn't know and you're new and frustrated and want to take your frustration out on someone, I advise you kindly not to get angry at me.

I am the gatekeeper to forum access, as well a volunteer who devotes a LOT of time to maintaining this forum, in addition to a wellspouse, holder of a full-time job and the proud mother of two wonderful kids.

So please be kind, patient, and treat me as you would like me to treat to, and we'll get along just fine.

And if you don't, I'll post your hateful email right here so that all your new friends can read what a mean person you were to me.

Here's the one I received today, just so you can see how self-centred some people are:

once again, we are in crisis and i can't get onto the site.

i think you might be making this unnecessarily difficult.

And on a lighter note, the VAST MAJORITY of the email I get is from people who are thrilled and relieved to have found us, and this far outweighs the mean stuff. So thanks to all of you for the nice words (I'm not fishing for more!) and for making this site as wonderful as it is.

Erin - first allow me to thank you - without you and Richard and Dorothy and the other volunteers we would not have this wonderful site.

I too have been frustrated at times with the slowness/unavailability of these forums - but you get what you pay for. As I understand it many who use these forums do not even pay the $25 dues. (Of course, due to illness many are in financial crisis and cannot - heck, I am one check away from that situation myself so I understand.)

But again I belong to another group from my pre-retirement days and that board used to be powered by the same format we use - it too was verrrrry slow and finally the organization had to upgrade to a different gateway.

I would be more than willing to donate to a special fund IF we need to upgrade the system.

Failing that, the solace I find here is WORTH THE WAIT!

Again, thanks for all you wonderful people do! (And that includes the head of my local chapter too for opening her home to our meetings and making us all feel welcome.)

An announcement will be coming out soon - rest assured!!

We are upgrading to a faster system and will be buying a lot more bandwidth/month, which will make the forum so much faster. Richard et al are in discussions with our service provider and once they make a decision will be sure to announce it. It's going to be an expensive decision and increase our monthly fees substancially, so we want to do the due diligence, but we think it's worth it.

We know things are slow and we're on it!

Hi, I came here via an article in one of the cancer magazines. I joined Monday; was not able to read anything in the forum IIRC. After joining, I tried to come back & read, still wasn't able to. I'd clicked on random sections.

If I could help.. possibly add a section you don't need to log in to read. I wasn't able to see this section; had I known it was normal NOT to get an email saying I was accepted; I would have been back sooner; or would have known to email.

Wish I would have found this board sooner. Hubby just finished treatment for throat cancer. It's been a long few months; that are not over yet.

Erin, I'm not getting email notifications even though I have my user CP set that way. I just looked in the spam box.. nothing.

For forum replies; is the email address forumadmin@wellspouse.org - or would it be something different?

Thanks
