Hiding your identity

Postby Erin » Thu Jul 14, 2005 6:23 pm

Many users, after first setting up an account with a recognizable name, realise that they would like to have a hidden identity in order to discuss things that are of a more personal nature without letting their IS find out about it. There are two ways to solve this problem:

1. get access to the "incognito" account. This will allow you to post on very sensitive subjects, but it does not allow people to see who is posting. This is good and bad, but seems to work for a lot of people. If you want to get the password to this account, you may request it from me if you are a member who has posted more than about ten times and in good standing with his/her posts.

2. change or hide your identity. Choose a username and email address that is not identifyable to your IS. I don't believe it is currently possible to hide your email address once you have set up an account. However, I can change both your username and email if you need it. When you change your email address, make sure you are using one that your IS does not know. The only disadvantage of this is that you will not receive notification of new posts to your primary address, but I find that function of the software pretty silly anyway. If you want to do either of these things, EMAIL ME (don't post or pm) with the new username and/or email address that you want to have and I will change it for you.

3. make your signature line non-specific. don't give your specific location, age or ages of children, etc. watch what information you give out that might point to you. Or, you can always lie about your location.

4. don't have your internet browser save a bookmark or cookie to the login page, and DON'T allow it to save your password as well!

As always, if you have problems or need help, please let me know!

I am new to the forum.

How do I input the signature line where my tagline and my WS to IS info is displayed at the bottom of the post?

Hi! When you are on the forum page, click on "Profile" at the top, to the right of Usergroups. It will take you to a spot where you can fill out anything you want us to know about yourself and your IS.
Granny.
