I'm new to posting or emailing of any type

I bought a book. There is a chapter on prevention in e-mail communication.

These are the sentences that I underlined and found useful---
The friendly or frustrated nuances of voice and facial expression are gone, so the reader of an e-mail doesn't see the writer's emotion...As a result, hastily written words make the wrong point; well-intended humor written with a gleam in the eye is misunderstood as a snipe or a smirk; a casual reference with multiple meanings is take the wrong way. All too often, the lack of context and cues becomes the focal point for conflict; sentences lacking perspective produce a tunnel vision reaction that rolls through time...
Perhaps rather than reponding to what you think the person meant it would be worth composing a message that asks clarifying questions.

The caret sign > in front of the words someone else wrote is now generally recognized as a symbol for quoting what your correspon dent said, and it helps them know to what you are responding.

Hopefully, this helps others who are newbies to posting and emailing.
