[Getting Better Every Day]

Newbie here. I have been taking care of my husband since he had his first stroke in 2005. He has hemiplegia and is somewhat independent. As we find our new normal he wants his wife back and I find myself wondering if I can get back there.

Welcome Hero Caregiver (perfect name)....I also have a spouse who suffered a stroke, hemiplegia (massive losses, sadly).....this is a wonderful safe haven to garner information, support, vent, share, cry or laugh.....as they say, "Sorry you need us, but glad you found us".

This is a wonderful place to obtain insight as to how everyone else handles thie travail. Welcome to our family. It is not easy to go back and forth between nurse and spouse and however you handle it will be right for you.

It is hard for me to always remember the "wife" I have loved for 45 years even though she too is able to do most ADLs. It is the roller coaster and emotional drain.

Hi (((Getting Better Every Day)))

My IS had a major stroke in 2009 at the age of 55. He also has left hemiplegia and other damage. He can still do a few adl's but less all the time. He's reached the point that he sleeps about 20 out of each 24 hours. A sleep study last week revealed he has obstructive and central sleep apnea. Waiting for the neurologist to tell us what to do about it. We've been married 31 years now. He's not the same guy he was. With the depression, fatigue and cognitive losses, he's not even the same guy from day to day. I never really know if or whom I'll run into- some days he doesn't really get up. The new normal is crap. I've been left behind with this new version of my husband.

Many days I just wish I were anywhere but here.
