So the WSA Helped You? Now Help Others as a Volunteer

Postby Richard » Tue Oct 07, 2008 11:33 am

This is one of my periodic requests for volunteers to help the Well Spouse Association in its mission to bring support to husbands, wives, or partners of people with _any_ chronic illness and/or disability. You, the volunteers (I am one myself) are the way the WSA flourishes and grows. By the way, volunteers may be current or former well spouses.

To volunteer, please contact the Office, info@wellspouse.org, or me, Richard@wellspouse.org

Board members: - We're looking for someone who is already contributing to the organization, as say, a support group leader, moderator, or hometown WSA Ambassador, who has spoken to local people and groups about the WSA. On joining the Board, the member continues their volunteer efforts, and encourages others to join in.
Specific Volunteer areas:
- Grant-Writing - do you have experience? You can help!
- Fundraising - after the conference we will be starting up a Friends and Family fundraising campaign, and everyone can help with this. More later.
- Support Group Leaders - those who have been members for a while, and are realizing the truth of our slogan, You Are Not Alone are encouraged to start a group in their local area - BTW it helps to have someone else to be a co-leader.
-Telephone Support Group Leaders - we are planning to start up a few telephone support groups, and need people to lead them. Doesn't matter where you are - if you have free long-distance, we have free conference call capacity.
- Contact person in your state/province - If you feel you can't start a group now, how about making yourself available for spousal caregivers and others in your area to talk to, and to help them find out more about the organization, or possibly get a group going themselves. The Office staff get lots of calls from "newbies" wanting information and support. We want the Office to be able to refer the "newbie" to the contact person in their area, who will then call them a few days later and follow up on that first call to the WSA
- Website editor - we want to set up a "members-only" area on the website, and need a person to oversee this, planning sections, coordinating editing of contributions, etc. in consultation with others.
