Yes, the Board Layout Changed!!

Postby Richard » Sat Dec 11, 2010 4:33 pm

Note: I've rewritten this post from yesterday. Today is Sunday Dec. 12

For several months now our professional web designer, Ron Rattie, has been working on integrating the website and the Forum. Rotton and some others had asked why we needed a change -- that is why... the old Forum setup was not compatible with the website.

One thing that Ron is working towards is one login -- one username, one password. We haven't quite got there, but now if you log in on the website, http://wellspouse.org, you will see already in the login panel whether you have any new PMs on the Forum, and other information.

It would have been preferable to give advance warning, but here we are! Ron will be working to get everything squared away. For instance you will note that the buttons on the top bar don't work at present. I'm sure Ron is working on that right now!
And they do work now.

I ask for your patience, as we work with a more streamlined website and Forum. [Insert Embarrassed Smiley!!]

I would like to have any suggestions, now you have had some time. You can't reply to this post, but I'll create one in Questions, that people can respond to. Beside the buttons, Ron reduced the glare by adding a good deal of gray. Does that work for people, or do we need a more muted background to the posts?

Please add comments to the post in Questions, which will be a Sticky.

Cool, thanks. Yes, advance warning works better.

Someday, please include an edit function so we can go back and change our posts. No, I don't compose elsewhere and paste it here.

And again, BRAVO for your work.

If I could edit my post, I would have added that the white and very light gray are quite brilliant, and the red lettering is cute for the season but is hard for many brains to decode properly, thus making it hard to see.

The hot screen is close to hurting my eyes, and I hate to complain, I really do, I am sorry for landing (just barely) on the critic side of the fence. Again, thank you so very much for the uncompensated time and effort. Come her and I'll fix you the best meal I can muster.

Richard:

You said I can't reply to your post -- either the security was changed or it isn't working because I get a post box and am just an ordinary user.

One thing I noticed, that I particularly like, is when I am reading a thread and then backup to the index page of a Forum, the icon that says I have a new post is gone from the thread I just read. I no longer have to refresh my screen or try to remember which topic I read.

However, I haven't yet figured out how to know on the Board Index page which forums have posts that are new for me.

There is a big difference in the colors. So far I am OK with the change. The font in the Post Box is much larger so typing a post is a little easier. However, I wasn't able to click on a smiley and get it to appear (maybe just something "still in the works."

Edited by Richard... my comments to add:   Smileys do work... I locked this thread. Please add comments to the New topic I started in Questions, at the top (it's a sticky). I'm collecting there and sending them on to Ron.
Thanks to all who worked so hard on this change.
