Philadelphia, PA Respite Weekend - March 8 - 10, 2013. Recap by Dorothy SaundersA dozen well spouses met in Philadelphia, March 8-10, 2013 for yet another fun-filled respite weekend. Philly is a delightful city with many historical and cultural attractions. The weather was mild, and many of us toured the city on foot, working up appetites for seafood Friday evening, and Italian cuisine Saturday evening. A special treat at Saturday's dinner was the opera-singing young wait staff. Some local well spouses joined us for parts of the weekend.A few of us visited the ever-popular annual Philadelphia Flower Show; some enjoyed the vistas from walking across the Ben Franklin Bridge into New Jersey; and others enjoyed visiting the bustling Reading Terminal Market to shop for Amish wares, Italian pastries, or to indulge in enormous pastrami sandwiches (given superlative reviews). A few of us had booked tickets for the impressive Barnes Foundation art museum. We caught up with one another over nightcaps in the hotel's bar, sharing in the anticipation of those lucky enough to be vacationing overseas soon, and reassuring those facing tough caregiving decisions. If you missed this event, and are now eager to experience Philly yourself, you're in luck. We'll be meeting in Philly again for our national conference, Oct. 25-27, and hope to see you there. And if you're now eager to try a WS respite, we have more scheduled-Cape May, NJ in May, Rock Hall, MD in June, and more. Thanks to Dina G. for planning this wonderful Philly weekend!
